Improving Disaster Response

A proposed global disaster reduction plan under consideration today at a UN conference in Japan will emphasize protecting the health of affected populations and strengthening health care infrastructure, according to Reuters.

In an effort to avoid some of the missteps in the global response to the Ebola epidemic, the draft agreement calls for improved disaster planning for such crises, including understanding the cultures of local communities to build cooperation and trust with health workers, Reuters reports.
