Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi called for global human compassion to combat child labor and child slavery at a recent UN event.
There are 168 million kids worldwide who work fulltime, and more than half of them (85 million) are in hazardous jobs, reports the International Labor Organization. Even more shocking: the number of child slaves has persisted at 5.5 million for the past 15 years.
“If one single child anywhere in the world is in danger, the world is not safe. If one single girl is sold like an animal and sexually abused and raped, we cannot call ourselves a cultured society,” said Satyarthi.
