1 million people have been injured in the Syrian conflict that burns on, and generations have been sacrificed, according to a new report on injuries in the war from Handicap International.
Tens of thousands of people need prostheses, orthoses and rehabilitation sessions, the organization estimates. The appalling impact of explosive weapons, which indiscriminately kill and injure civilians, includes disabilities and psychological trauma, and reduces families to poverty.
Handicap International provides orthopedic services and care in in 4 countries affected by the conflict, but warns that Syria has a generation of people who will need long-term care—even if the conflict stopped today.
