Stronger Frontline Care

Seeking to improve primary health care in low and middle-income countries, the Gates Foundation, World Bank and WHO announced a new partnership Saturday during a UN development meeting.

Primary care providers (often neighborhood clinics) are on the frontlines in the fight against disease but a lack of data on monitoring, tracking and sharing of performance measurements—such as accuracy of diagnoses—has made it difficult to improve providers’ efforts.

The Quote: “Once a disease breaks out, how do we get information? This information has to be relayed very quickly and has to be done transparently. Press a button, and now we know what the world needs to do,” said German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
