Organizers of the International Conference on Family Planning have postponed the 2015 meeting in Nusa Dua, Indonesia because of an erupting volcano on nearby island.
The decision came as thousands of attendees were scheduled to leave for the conference set to start on Monday. Volcanic ash spewing from Mount Rinjani had forced the closure of Denpasar Airport for most of the past 3 days.
ICFP organizers will be meeting in the coming days to decide on next steps and begin discussing a new date and location.
“This is a disappointment for the many who have worked to plan this event and all of those who had planned to participate in the conference,” ICFP organizers said in a statement.
