Kenya’s Cardiac Care Success

Duke University has worked with Kenyan partners to develop a sustainable, multi-faceted cardiovascular care program at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret, Kenya—with great success.

The cardiac care unit admits nearly 300 patients annually and the cardiac clinic, about 80 patients weekly. The 6-year-old program includes teaching and research, and has trained 3 cardiologists so far in Kenya, where physicians typically need to leave their country to obtain these credentials.

The partners used WHO's Framework for Action to establish the program.
A paper about this process and their results has recently been published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
