Yemen on the Verge
Health workers in Yemen are scrambling to make the most of a 1-week truce in Yemen. Despite the cease-fire, the country is teetering on the edge, with food and fuel shortages and damaged roads preventing the delivery of aid, says Tarak Bach Baouab, who heads up MSF’s Yemen mission.
About 1/3 of all health facilities have been destroyed or abandoned, according to the WHO. And 14.4 million (more than 1/2 of Yemen’s population) are food insecure, the World Food Program reports.
The WHO is appealing to the international community for a $31 million package to expand health care.
