Travelers, Take Note

A man working in Angola returned to China with yellow fever earlier this month, the country’s first imported case, and is now gravely ill.

The WHO noted that he had not been vaccinated prior to travel, and warned member states to pay attention to international guidelines urging countries—especially those featuring Aedes aegypti mosquitoes—to strengthen vaccination for all travelers to all potentially endemic areas.

The WHO designated the risk for further transmission in Beijing minimal, given the fact that it isn’t the active time of year for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in the area.
