Fast Health

Writer Peter Bowes reports his experiences on an experimental Fast-Mimicking Diet that, according to researchers, kick starts a regenerative process that will guard against disease and slow ageing.

The diet involves his reducing calories by up to 2/3, over 5 consecutive days, once a month for 3 months. The rest of the time he eats without restrictions.

Bowes also met with a group of Ecuadorians who have a genetic mutation in their GH receptors that blocks the production of IGF-1 in their bodies, meaning they can get fat and still not develop diabetes; the mutation allows them to eat what they want while enjoying the same protection the diet confers to people like Bowes.
