Pushing Tech Boundaries

The 10-year history of digital health is littered with good ideas that stalled after the pilot stage. Today, the focus has shifted to technological solutions that have potential for wide use.

One example comes from Ghana, where with help from the Novartis Foundation, the government piloted the use of digital technology to connect isolated community health workers to nurses and doctors. Now the government is using the initiative as a nationwide model.

“It’s our new way of working,” said Ann Aerts, who heads the foundation. “We do not start if we are not sure a solution we are pioneering can be scaled.”
