A Motorcycle-Ambulance Saves Lives in Indian Jungle

A UNICEF-supported motorcycle-ambulance project in the jungle of Chhattisgarh in Central India has saved the lives of more than 200 pregnant women, helping to drop the maternal and infant mortality rate in the district.

The maze-like jungle is all but impassable for four-wheelers so local officials are experimenting with the motorcycle-ambulance. Only one is in use right now but a UNICEF representative said 10 more will arrive soon.
