US Passes Global Food Security Act

In an act of rare bipartisan support, the US Congress unanimously passed the Global Food Security Act yesterday.

The bill supports the Obama administration’s Feed the Future program, which aims to build resilience in farmers. Supporters made the case that reducing global hunger and malnutrition by investing in agriculture will help reduce poverty and insecurity.

The bill, which builds on existing programs, will not require additional spending, writes Tom Murphy.
