Binge Drinking, Brought to You by Parents

Drinking alcohol in college may well go back centuries, but a very 21st century approach to raising kids—helicopter parenting—might be opening the door to binge drinking that makes the partying of yesteryear appear quaint.

Caitlan Flanagan’s essay in The Atlantic explores “Good Parents” and “Get-Real Parents,” with the former enforcing a restrictive approach to alcohol and the latter practicing “social hosting” and a permissive attitude. Flanagan points out that parents yoked to their kids at every stage are part of the problem in this entitled demographic.
