Italy's Death Toll Nears 250

The death toll today passed 240 following yesterday’s 6.2-magnitude earthquake in central Italy, as rescuers scramble to reach dozens of people believed trapped.

Strong aftershocks continue to shake the region, rendering buildings in Amatrice, including the town’s hospital, unstable and prompting responders to set up a tent camp.

Journalists, bystanders have been urged to leave the town because of the ongoing danger.

The International Business Times reports that the earthquake displaced more than 1,000.
