Huffington Po Canada offers a brutal reality check for the Olympics-addled public. First, you know those ubiquitous photos of proud Olympians biting down on their gold medals? Spontaneous fun, right? Wrong. Photographers seeking their idea of an iconic shot ask the Olympians to bit the medals. “It’s become an obsession for the photographers,” says David Wallechinsky, president of the International Society of Olympic Historians. (Good gig, BTW. Sign me up.) And lest you think the athletes are leaving toothy impressions on the medals, the gold medals contain only 1.34% gold. The rest is mostly silver.
