Surgical Storms

The need for surgical care will surge as climate change increases the frequency and severity of natural disasters, according to a new study published in PLOS.

Climate-driven disasters resulted in an annual average of 7 million additional surgical procedures between 2004 and 2014, the researchers, led by Eugenia E. Lee, report. They anticipate the greatest need for future climate-related surgical care will be among countries with the least surgical capacity.
