The Blame Game

Negotiations continue between the US and China 2 weeks after the countries pledged to work together to curb the trade in synthetic drugs that is contributing to the US opioid epidemic.
The US Drug Enforcement Administration wants China to exercise tighter control on the synthetic drugs—and drug-making ingredients—it exports. Though China has agreed, its government resents US accusations and is battling its own synthetic drug crisis.
UN drug expert Martin Raithelhuber says, “We have to come out of the chicken-and-egg mentality and recognize the responsibility each part has.”
