Feeble Future Harvests?

By 2030, between 35 and 122 million more people could be living in extreme poverty due to decreased crop yields and food-price volatility caused by climate change, according to a UN report released yesterday. The world’s 500 million small-scale farms will be left especially vulnerable and require greater assistance as they struggle to provide more food in increasingly adverse circumstances, it warns.
To curb the worst effects, experts suggest agriculturists adopt sustainable food production methods and governments implement programs that will help farmers better manage risks, such as price gouging and employment losses.
