Bloomberg’s Tobacco Fight

Michael Bloomberg continues to wage war against big tobacco, with the announcement of a $350 million commitment to fund anti-tobacco efforts, primarily in the developing world.

The funds will help to expand Bloomberg Philanthropies’ campaigns in low-and middle income countries to monitor tobacco use, introduce anti-tobacco legislation and develop education initiatives about the harms of tobacco use.

Examples of the Philanthropies' anti-tobacco efforts have resulted in government-required graphic health warnings on cigarette packages in India and a ban on tobacco sales to minors in Bangladesh.
