One reason for the urgency: “WHO estimates that out-of-pocket expenditures on health services push 100 million people into poverty every year.”

Another case for UHC: The Commission on Health Employment and Economic Growth recently showed that health sector investments create jobs and stimulate economic growth in addition to improving health.

The “vital first step”: Scale up primary health care for the vulnerable, including the poor, women, girls, and older populations.
