And Then There Were 3

The WHO announced yesterday the 3 finalists vying to become its 8th director-general when Dr. Margaret Chan steps down June 30. They are:

  • Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, 51, of Ethiopia, a former health and foreign affairs minister.
  • Sania Nishtar, 53, of Pakistan, a former health minister with extensive civil society experience.
  • David Nabarro, 67, of Britain, special adviser to the UN secretary general on sustainable development and climate change.

The World Health Assembly will vote on the final candidate in May. Earlier this week, we linked to some pieces explaining the process and detailing steps the next DG should take.
