51-50 Against Planned Parenthood

In a small win for Republicans on the heels of the failure to overhaul Obamacare, the US Senate approved legislation yesterday that will allow individual states to withhold federal family planning money from Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers.
The bill, which passed 51-50 with a deciding vote by Vice President Mike Pence, overturned an Obama-era regulation. Republicans affirm that the legislation allows states to choose how to spend these dollars, which may mean funding community health centers that don’t provide abortions. Opponents of the bill claim it’s an attack on women. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Washington, called it “shameful and dangerous.”
