Van Susteren emphasizes that leading by example—quickly transitioning to clean, renewable energy, for instance—would make the world safer for democracy. “Building walls, fueling ethno-centric division, and building up the military will not … and our denial is going to be looked upon as an unforgivable assault on the rest of the world,” Van Susteren says.
