Eyes and Ears

A free app for people with disabilities is making its way in the Caribbean market. Launched by the Caribbean Telecommunications Union, the app will help the visually impaired and those with hearing loss to communicate, do everyday tasks and compete for jobs, advocates say.

Explaining how the app might be used by a person with visual impairment, consultant Trevor Prevatt says: “You have a medication to take, you can call [the service’s] agent who will tell you ‘Okay, hold up the bottle’. You put your phone on it and the agent will be the eyes for the person.”
