Young and Vulnerable

Migrant and refugee children in Greece are being exposed to physical, psychological and sexual violence and exploitation, according to a recent Harvard University study. Researchers interviewed 24 people, including pediatricians and lawyers, who work closely with migrant children in the Lesvos and Chios islands, Athens and Thessaloniki.

The conversations suggested major factors that contribute to the migrant children’s abuse and exploitation. They include risky living conditions in migrant camps and a lack of specialized facilities, weak systems for protecting children and inefficiency in relocating them to permanent locations.
