4 Famines in the Making

Over 20 million civilians in conflict-ridden South Sudan, Nigeria, Somalia and Yemen are at risk of starving to death—all crises that could have been prevented, writes journalist Jane Ferguson. Unless the international community steps up, she says, the world could face 4 simultaneous famines for the first time in memory.
Ferguson’s harrowing stories from South Sudan include 16-year-old Marco Nuer, whose father and 2 sisters died of starvation as the family fled war in their small town.
