Experts Step Up to Help Threatened Fogarty Center

Targeted for elimination in the Trump administration's proposed FY18 budget, the Fogarty International Center has drawn vocal support in recent weeks from global health experts.

Fogarty is “still a well kept secret” that deserves support, said Christine Lubinski, vice president of the Infectious Diseases Society of America during a recent webinar on the center.

If they don’t hear from constituents, Congress can give programs “short shrift when funding decision are made,” Lubinski warned according to a Devex report last week.

Using a sliver of the NIH budget, the Fogarty Center trained more than 6000 scientists for more than 500 research and training projects in more than 100 countries since its 1968 inception, according to a recent JAMA Perspective article.

Thanks for the tip, Molly Bowen!
