Gag Reflex

Colombia’s largest family planning provider, Profamilia, chose not to comply with President Trump’s expansion of the “global gag rule” in January, forfeiting $1.2 million in USAID funds that would have gone toward services in conflict-ridden areas of the country. The organization has also forfeited funding for maternal mortality and Zika prevention programs.
The so-called gag rule prevents non-US NGOs from providing services or information related to abortion if they are receiving US government funding.
