Heat, Here and Now
1 in 3 people already face deadly heatwaves, and that number will rise to 1 in 2 by the end of the century, according to a new Nature Climate Change study.
Study authors emphasize that climate change is happening now and will only get worse. In Bhubaneswar, India, for example, doctors report increasing numbers of patients—especially those 50 to 70 years old—presenting with heat exhaustion.
The Quote: "We are running out of good choices for the future. For heatwaves, our options are now between bad or terrible," said the University of Hawaii’s Camilo Mora, lead author of the study.
