'Land Without Law'

America’s heroin addiction has fueled heightened violence along Mexico’s Highway 51 in the Tierra Caliente region, where drug bosses command vigilante groups to control territory and drug transportation routes. More than 90% of America’s heroin comes from Mexico.
Residents along Highway 51 call it “a land without law.” In a gripping exposé, The Washington Post’s Joshua Partlow portrays citizens forced to co-exist with drug gangs who have taken over their lands, while law enforcement has been neutered.
