Losing Ground

The EU’s highest court has ruled that people who believe a vaccine has caused them harm can sue its manufacturer without scientific proof linking the vaccine to their illness.

Weighing in on a French lawsuit brought by the family of a man who developed MS soon after receiving a series of Hepatitis B shots, the court cited consumer protection as its motive. But Foreign Policy’s Laurie Garrett says the decision gives a boost to anti-vaxxers.

“And now,” she writes, “every one of [their] crackpot theories can be presented in a European court of law, absent the merest modicum of evidence.”
