Threatened Supply

Tilapia lake virus is affecting huge populations of both open water and farmed fish in Colombia, Ecuador, Egpyt and Israel. And in Thailand, 90% of farmed stock were decimated.

While TiLV is not transferrable to humans, tilapia is a prevalent source of protein for rural communities in its native Africa and is one of the most traded fish in the world. Trade was estimated at $9.8 billion in 2015 and a significant virus could impact global food security.
