À Votre Santé—Sans Booze
A Lancet Public Health editorial suggests that French President Emmanuel Macron’s nomination of Agnès Buzyn—a hematologist who led the French Cancer Institute (INCa)—as Minister of Health presents a new opportunity for the country to advance public health.
Citing a May report on the state of health in France, the editorial concludes that despite relative progress and stability, glaring inequalities need to be addressed.
Another area Buzyn might adopt as a priority: alcoholism. In France, alcohol causes an estimated 50,000 deaths a year and ranks the 3rd leading risk factor for early death and disability, after smoking and high blood pressure.
