Doing Better by Teen Moms

In Uganda, 1 in 4 girls between the ages of 15-19 in Uganda has given birth or is pregnant with her first child.

Growing up in Uganda, Ritah Namwiza saw firsthand the challenge of finding accurate information about sex. She’s now a Global Health Corps fellow who works with teen mothers through Jhpiego.

Pregnant teens need emotional support as well as accurate family planning information from health workers, and encouragement rather than shaming from educators. All this can give teen mothers power over their bodies and their lives, Namwiza says.
