End of an Era

The Global Fund’s “Special Initiative on Value for Money and Financial Sustainability” aims to provide a needed framework for donors and countries to navigate a shifting landscape of donor aid for health.
As countries like Brazil, Ukraine and Indonesia transition toward self-sufficiency—moving from lower-middle income to middle-income status—many are phasing out of eligibility for aid from large multilateral organizations. At the same time, donor funding for such aid for health has plateaued.
The Global Fund initiative has been working since 2014 to help countries pinpoint and address their largest vulnerabilities during this transition.
