ABCs of Prevention

Global and within-country inequality has caused cervical cancer to disproportionately affect women in low- and middle-income settings, and recent estimates say it’s the 2nd most common cancer affecting these women. To test prevention programs in remote locations like Lower Napo River communities in the Peruvian Amazon, nonprofit DB Peru launched the Amazon Community-Based Participatory Cervical Cancer Prevention Program.
For organizations looking to follow its lead, the team has outlined what it calls the ABCs of cervical cancer prevention: assessment of community needs, behavior change regarding education about cervical cancer prevention, and clinical screening and treatment.
