Tracking Progress

A year after the UN General Assembly agreed to combat the root causes of antimicrobial resistance, 129 of 151 countries surveyed said they have developed or are developing action plans.

More than half of the countries said they have a fully developed plan that addresses human, animal and environmental health, known as the One Health spectrum. Among these countries is India, whose unregulated use of antimicrobials has been much criticized.

Despite the progress, the report notes, AMR continues to spread across the globe, and there are few new antibiotic candidates in development.
