Custom Blend

“Micro-manufacturing” may be the future of pharmaceuticals: Researchers at the University of Michigan invented a new vaporizing technique that allows them to “print” custom-mixed medications.

The team released its study amidst excitement that the technology can allow for on-demand customization as well as the ability to transport meds more easily to remote or dangerous locations. Custom dosages may also prove more cost-effective as some medications can be mixed or combined into a single dose.

Commoditization is still years away, but the study gives rise to hope that these new technologies will render medications cheaper and more accessible.
