A New Hub for AMR

A New Hub for AMR

World leaders are looking to stem drug resistance with a new research hub in Germany.

Bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites are increasingly resistant to drugs—a natural phenomenon exacerbated by overzealous use of antibiotics and pre-emptive treatment of animals. If left unchecked, the UN says, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) threatens to derail its Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.

Taking its lead from WHO’s approach to addressing AMR, this summer’s G-20 summit green-lit the Research and Development Collaboration Hub, which will focus on improving stewardship of antimicrobial drugs, appropriate use of medicines, and better access to them.
