Health Centers: An Unlikely Foe in Fighting Global Outbreaks

Health facilities have become breeding grounds for the spread of deadly viruses, with weak infection prevention and control (IPC) programs proving stubborn obstacles to controlling global outbreaks.

Over 2.6 million new cases of health-care-associated infection occur every year in Europe, topping the toll of more than 32 other communicable diseases, according to the European CDC.

To bring IPC reform to the fore, the Global IPC (GIPC) Network’s has released 5-year Call for Action, encouraging further research into IPC’s efficacy and to ensure it is embraced by health systems at all stages of development.
