‘Sickening Sameness’ Unites Rohingya Rapes

Dozens of Rohingya Muslim women and girls detailed horrific “sweeping and methodical” rape at the hands of Burma’s security forces.

Aung San Suu Kyi’s government denies accounts of rape; an internal military investigation last month concluded such assaults never took place.

Yet a “sickening sameness” unites 29 interviews from refugees in camps in Bangladesh, now absorbing hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees, writes Kristen Gelineau.

The horrific tales from October 2016 to mid-September document just a sliver of the victims. MSF has seen 113 sexual violence survivors since August—the youngest just 9 years old.
