On Trump’s Chopping Block

A year in, President Trump’s “America First” policy is upending its role in global health.

The White House has proposed cuts of over $2 billion to global health for fiscal year 2018—a 23% drop from 2017.

Half of the American public supports US leadership to improve global health. While many cuts are yet to manifest, their mere suggestion is unprecedented.

Ahead of the FY2019 budget, ones to watch will be the Mexico City policy, which applies to over $7 billion in funding, and the changing US role in the Global Health Security Agenda, Gavi and other multilateral agreements.
