Zooming in on NTDs

African Heads of State have added 5 top neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) to their annual disease progress report, raising the profile of diseases that put 1.5 billion people at risk globally—including over 620 million in Africa.

The number of people at risk of NTDs has dropped by more than 400 million in the last 5 years, and treatment has improved with the dissemination of cheap, safe medicines.

By zooming in on NTDs, the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) hopes to build on progress against diseases that prey on the most vulnerable communities and stunt economic growth across the continent.
