Editing Out Reproductive Rights

The US State Department is deleting text about women’s reproductive rights from an upcoming annual report on global human rights, Politico reports.

Passages that describe women’s access to contraceptives and abortion have been ordered cut. In addition, a section on racial, ethnic and sexual discrimination has also been ordered trimmed.

The changes have raised concerns among career department officials who have seen a sharp right turn by the Trump administration away from Obama-era policies.

The Quote: “This sends a clear signal that women's reproductive rights are not a priority for this administration," one official said.
