Another Record Year for Refugees

Displacement is now happening at a rate equivalent to 44,500 people per day, according to UNHCR's latest Global Trends report, released each year ahead of World Refugee Day on June 20th.

2017 was the 5th record year in a row for forced displacements worldwide, climbing above 67 million people and hitting developing countries hardest. 16.2 million people became displaced during 2017 alone,

The moving masses are driven by violent conflict and persecution, particularly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, and among the hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees fleeing Burma for Bangladesh.
