A Fallen Paramedic

A 21-year-old paramedic was killed Friday, shot in the back by Israeli forces while trying to reach injured demonstrators near Israel's perimeter fence.

Razan An Najjar, a volunteer paramedic, wore clothing that clearly marked her as a first responder, said James Heenan, head of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in the occupied Palestinian territory. "It is very difficult to see how Razan posed such a threat to heavily armed, well-protected Israeli forces in defensive positions," he said.

An Najjar’s death follows attacks affecting 245 health workers and 40 ambulances in oPT in the last couple months, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health and others.
