By Choice, Not Chance: It's a Right

World leaders recognized family planning as a human right 50 years ago, but 214 million women still lack safe and effective family planning.
 
This World Population Day, ~155 million women use no family planning at all and ~59 million use unreliable or even dangerous methods—either for want of access to services or accurate information, or because they lack support from their partners.
 
To demonstrate the need to educate and improve access to safe, reliable contraception, UNFPA collected examples of unreliable and even dangerous methods people have turned to—from kitchen sponges to harmful chemicals.
