MSF Hands Over the Reins

Médecins Sans Frontières is handing the reins of the DRC’s Ebola response to the Congolese Ministry of Health and other NGOs. During a 2-month emergency intervention, MSF supported the health ministry, identifying 38 confirmed Ebola cases, including 24 survivors.

No new Ebola cases have been reported since June 6 and the “ring vaccination” of over 3,000 patient contacts has been completed. Failing any new cases, Congolese health authorities will declare the outbreak officially over on July 22—that’s 42 days (twice Ebola’s maximum incubation period) and 1 day after a safe burial of the last confirmed Ebola death.
