Student Traffic Deaths Lead to Massive Protests in Dhaka

Tens of thousands of students poured onto in Dhaka, Bangladesh’s streets again on Sunday to demand better road safety after 2 students were killed last week by buses.
Police responded with tear gas while pro-government youth groups attacked the protesters and at least 5 journalists with clubs. The protests and attacks became embroiled in presidential politics, embarrassing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina before December’s general election.
Police continued teargassing students today as a human rights group demanded the release of an activist who criticized the government in a TV interview, according to the latest AP report.
