UN Details ‘Genocidal Intent’ of Rohingya Attacks

A forensic UN investigation into the Rohingya crisis released today found “genocidal intent” in Burmese military actions against the Muslim minority. The damning report calls for military leaders, including the commander in chief, to be investigated and prosecuted for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.

This marks the strongest international condemnation of the military crackdown on the Rohingya which began last August. Its findings round up a year-long investigation that covers military actions stretching back to 2011, detailing “patterns of gross human rights violations” in Rakhine state and elsewhere, including gang raping women, burning villages and wildly disproportionate responses to what the military considered security threats.
